Karl Hinett presents David Burke with pioneering award

David Burke of Northern Ireland was today presented with an award by Walking With The Wounded’s Karl Hinett for his participation in the Glenfiddich Pioneers Club and the world’s highest ever whisky tasting during the Waling With The Wounded Everest 2012 Expedition, supported by Glenfiddich.

The two were reunited at Belfast Castle having first met in the Himalayas last month. David, a retired RAF pilot from Antrim, said “I loved meeting the guys – what great bunch! They’re hugely inspirational and the expeditions they get involved with really capture the imagination and bring the charity to the attention of the general public. I was delighted to be involved and be a part of this”.

Karl and David were clearly in touch with their adventurous sides as they posed for photographers whilst hanging off the steps of Belfast Castle. Karl, who ran 52 marathons during 2011, remarked that he was amazed at David’s enthusiasm. “While we were on Everest the Glenfiddich Pioneers were such a great addition to our group – they had just done a really tough trek at altitude from Katmandu but were on top form when they joined us for the whisky tasting at Base Camp”.
