Craig Preece pushes hard on the ascent to Col de la Madeleine

Craig Preece, having lost his leg to an IED blast, has had a custom-built prosthetic leg created to enable him to cycle more freely.

As Craig explained to us when he attended the official Walking With The Wounded Trois Etapes launch at the Imperial War Museum, cycling with one’s right leg amputated below the knee does cause some difficulty, as you may well imagine: “You get a lot of power from your calf when you are climbing hills on your bike. I’m obviously missing one calf, so I have half as much power. It means I have to push that little bit harder than everyone else”.

Craig’s is an inspirational story, one which demonstrates a will to not be defeated by an injury.
