Last night saw the Royal Geographical Society welcome the Walking With The Wounded Everest 2012 Expedition team members to present their own personal views and memories of their ground-breaking trek to the imposing Mt Everest earlier this year.
Edward Parker and Simon Daglish, Co-Founders of Walking With The Wounded, introduced Martin Hewitt, Jaco van Gass, Karl Hinett, David Wiseman and Francis Atkinson to the audience of around 600. The team members expressed just how Everest had challenged them as a team and as individuals with very specific injuries.
Speaking after the presentation, Francis Atkinson said, ‘when we were in the Himalayas we relied on a lot of training wed had and we had been prepared very thoroughly, but there are some things which you can’t prepare for and that’s where we relied on grit and determination’.
Karl Hinett continued that ‘it was good to get together again with the boys and it was great to speak to such an informed and interested audience. We are hugely proud of what we did on Everest and we are definitely all proud to be associated with a charity which does such fabulous work.’
