The 43 mile long Country to Capital run..

Some key MDS training in the midst of the English winter  – the longest run I’ve done to date and I can confirm that 45 miles is a long way!

I wasn’t sure what to expect so went for a long slow plod.. time on the legs is key and racing snakes do not fare so well.

It was a freezing cold morning, snow predicted.. we set off and within 3 miles there was snow – and loads of it ! It lifted the mood though and we just kept going. The newly acquired ultra training beard did its job and kept the cold at bay, unfortunately it didn’t help me when the 4th stepping log across a river became a launch pad for me to go swimming. I was lucky, others went in full face down!!! Brrrrrr.
Thankfully I finished and in a mad 6 hours (unexpected) and a time which I was really pleased with.  I finished in a good 129th position and top 50 for my age group (too old!). Now I need to build and feel confident for the long day in the desert which is hard to train for in the UK!
