The tough and the tougher…

I have tried to keep flexible with my training for the MDS, I have no set structure due to being restricted by my work – a Policeman with the MET.

My main focus has been to drop body fat and build strength and muscle, my training for the last few months has been varied to say the least !! I generally hit the gym 5 times a week where I do varied workouts: either core strength, fast cardio (treadmill, x trainer, spin bike) 20k treadmill runs, strength training etc I have done a few Half Marathons to keep an eye on performance and to see where I need to improve. I am happy with my distance runs and have been doing cross country, hills, mud, trail etc everywhere from 10 to 30 miles, depends how I feel !! I recently completed the country to capital 45 miles and was happy with my overall performance. Up next is the Thames Trot 50 miler where I will test pace over distance and kit !


I have been testing kit and food over the past months too and I am pretty happy with my progress, I more or less have everything I need now just a few final tweaks ! I am a firm believer in keeping things simple and avoiding getting bogged down by everything, the MDS is a huge event and there is loads of advice out there, I’ve taken what I believe will benefit me and not bothered with the rest. I fly by the seat of my pants, it’s more fun that way ! I am really looking forward to meeting up with the team and taking this challenge on, it is going to be awesome and the most incredible shared experience with a bunch of like minded people.

I am just back from some warm weather training in Majorca which has included some really warm and tough trail running and summiting various peaks along the way. This was taken at 800m above Alcudia. It is time to get to the desert !
