There was a beautiful sunrise over Zion National Park at the start of stage 4 and the weather report called for hot temperatures once again.
The stage started along several miles of sandy track, where the racers first climbed to Checkpoint one and then descended into Checkpoint 2, which is exposed in the heat of the day. Shortly after reaching Checkpoint 3, the runners retrieved their headlamps from their packs in order to make their way through a stunning 400 meter tunnel through the rock before dramatic rope climb out of the steep canyon.
The day ended with sandy climbs in and out of steep canyons along petrified sand dunes, followed by an easy descent along a gravel road into camp.
We know Team Skins GB survived the tunnel and the climb and after stage 4, Kate is in 12th place in the female race and 43rd overall.
David is 53rd, Stuart Doughty 57th and Chris Smith 79th. As you can see from the photo of David Barnes above, it was thirsty work.
