Mani moved to the UK in January 2004 and joined The Royal Gurkha Rifles in Kent. He was deployed to Bosnia in 2005 and then trained at the Infantry Battle School, Brecon during 2006. In 2007, Mani was posted to Brunei before joining The 1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment. In 2010, Mani was deployed to Afghanistan.
Nature of Injury:
Mani received a gunshot wound through his right buttock and right groin, whilst serving in Afghanistan in June 2010.
Mani is into all types of sports including scuba diving, climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, running and paragliding.
How have you been preparing for the Everest expedition:
Mani has taken part in the WWTW training to Manaslu and is looking forward to 2012, when the team continue training in Europe.
What will be your luxury item you take with you?
‘A good adventure book’.
What will you miss the most:
My work colleagues and my family.
Please can you provide a personal comment on why you wanted to take part in the expedition.
When I first became injured, I felt that there was not a great deal of prospect for me. However this challenge has really made me realise that injured servicemen can really achieve just as much as those who are able bodied. I urge the British public to get behind and support us in this incredible challenge!
