Step into Health

Walking With The Wounded, in conjunction with The Royal Foundation, has designed the first access pathway from the military into the numerous career opportunities available in the NHS

The programme provides bespoke work experience packages of up to 4 weeks for veterans to explore the extensive career opportunities available. Once the work placement is complete the candidate has a guaranteed interview within one of the areas they have experienced. All wounded veterans are supported through the programme by Walking With The Wounded, whilst The Royal Foundation supports all other service leavers and veterans.

In 2014 Step into Health ran its first pilot with the Norfolk & Norwich University Trust. 80% of those veterans who completed a work placement went on to secure employment within the NHS.

Our aim is for the programme to provide a national network accessible to all veterans. This year we are expanding the programme to include Guy’s and Thomas’s, The Royal Devon & Exeter, Bristol, and Sheffield Trusts and our aim is to have up to 15 Trusts in 2016.
