The Marathon des Sables is something I’ve always wanted to do as it is the ultimate challenge. My race entry this year is my 40th birthday present to myself because I love running, the desert and all things Moroccan.  The MdS is an epic and beautiful race and I know that getting to the start line will be an amazing achievement in itself.  I wanted to raise money for WWTW because I have immense respect for the armed forces and know that the charity is making a huge difference to the lives of those injured in service both physically and mentally.  Training is going well now after a somewhat slow start and I’ve met so many fellow MdS 2016 competitors at various events over the past few months.  I’ve achieved so many firsts along the way including my first ultra marathon: The Wall 69 miler, my first 50km: The St Oswald’s Ultra, first multi day ultra: Druid’s Challenge, and I’ve just completed the Country to Capital 44 miler.  I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed every step!  The biggest challenge for me will probably be sleeping in a bivvy with 7 other tent mates as I don’t usually sleep very well before or during races.  I’ll be looking forward to the hotel at the end!  My luxury item will be a laminated photo of my 3 children as that will definitely keep me going.  My food luxury will be peanut M&Ms.  I’ll be cranking up Tiesto clublife podcasts on the ipod to get me up and over those sand dunes.  The thing I’m most looking forward to at the end is the medal and a hug from Patrick Bauer, and seeing my teammates get their medals.
