Why did you sign up to the MdS and why WWTW?

I have joined Walking With the Wounded to take on the Marathon des Sables challenge to help raise funds and the profile of the charity. I have had great past experiences with WWTW, when I joined their 2012 expedition to climb Mount Everest.

How’s your training going – what have you done so far, which milestones have you hit and are you happy with where you are so far?

My training is currently going well, I’m a regular marathon and ultra marathon runner, having to date completed 145 official marathon events, and having just qualified as a personal trainer, I feel that my fitness levels are high.

What do you see as the biggest challenge?

My concern is the heat, running through the desert will be very challenging for someone like myself who has suffered burn injuries, I will have to make sure that my skin is well covered and looked after to avoid unnecessary injury.

What luxuries will you treat yourself to during the MdS?

My luxuries are minimal with these races, as with other adventure races that I have completed, I only take a picture of my wife Beth and my dog Hank.

What 1 item of food are you taking which is your treat?

The one item of food which will be my treat is homemade cookies!

What will you be listening to on your iPod?

My iPod will consist of a mix between Hans Zimmer classical to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger.

Is there anything which you know you will be looking forward to at the end, before even beginning?!

I will mostly be looking forward to immersing myself in the environment, but I already know that a refreshing cold shower at the end will be very much on my mind!
