Upon returning to full-time work in the Army following operational injury, Kate threw herself back into the job she loves. Now she has set her sights on this personal challenge, both as an extreme goal for her ongoing rehabilitation, and in the hope of motivating others to test their limits.

Having deployed twice to Iraq, Kate was injured whilst serving on operations in Afghanistan in November 2008, when the armoured vehicle she was commanding was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). As a result of her injuries, Kate had her left leg amputated below the knee, but after 16 months of rehab she was determined to return to work and pursue her professional ambition. Following further revision surgery, Kate was inspired by Walking With The Wounded to give a new focus to her rehab and take on the challenge of the South Pole. She also hopes to inspire anyone who is dealing with hardship to dare to try: “better a moment of disappointment than a lifetime of regret”.
