In 2015 we entered our 2nd team into the Marathon des Sables, known as the toughest race on earth. 19 runners are taking part and fundraising for us. We are so grateful to them for their efforts.
We are delighted to have the generous support of Virgin Money who are sponsoring our MDS team places for us. As with all of our expeditions, the charity does not fund these endeavours, ensuring that all donations go directly to what we do – securing employment for our wounded servicemen and women.
All funds raised by the endeavours of the MDS team will be allocated to our Head Start programme. We hope that knowing how many people the team is helping through their funds raised will spur them on when the going gets tough in the sand.
Head Start is Walking With The Wounded’s programme to address the increasing needs of ex-service personnel suffering with mental injuries and sits alongside current provision through the NHS and other relevant charities. Research suggests for every physical injury there will be five mental injuries. For Iraq and Afghanistan alone we believe there are as many as 22,000 veterans suffering from mental health problems as a result of their service. More information on this programme can be found on our website.
