Vicks has been working for WWTW for over 3 years and manages the expeditions as well as other events for the charity. ‘I am motivated and inspired by my job every day, and am honoured to be able to help our wounded in some small way. Although my passion is organizing expeditions and challenges for others, I also thrive on my own adventures and need them to fuel my passion for what I do. Given that I also manage the WWTW MDS team each year, I thought it was about time to do the event myself so that I could speak to our runners and advise with the expertise required to do so! Given what I do daily with the kind of individuals we work with, my perception of what is ‘normal’ in terms of a ‘challenge’ is also rather different to the norm. I am really enjoying the training and the focus of such a challenge looming on the horizon, as well as working so closely with our team of 19 who are running for WWTW. I couldn’t be more delighted to be able to do such a grueling event to raise funds for such an amazing charity. I hope that my MDS effort will demonstrate my dedication to my job and to the people who we help every day. I relish quiet, wide open spaces and the beauty of harsh environments as well as new friendships which are always forged amongst shared experiences in wonderful / difficult places. The MDS seems to wrap all of these up into one hard week, I know it will be the toughest thing I have ever undertaken, but I am oddly excited about testing myself to the limits. I remind myself frequently that whatever hardships I will go through whilst we are in the Sahara, they won’t be a fraction of what our wounded have endured on our behalf’.
