Mount Kilimanjaro

Be part of Walking With The Wounded’s Mount Kilimanjaro expedition in September 2017 with one of our beneficiaries.

This unique trip up the Machame route on the highest mountain in Africa is organised by our event partner Kandoo Adventures and departs on 16th September 2017.

Every member of our 2016 team, accompanied by wounded ex Royal Marine Danny Bottomley, summited Kilimanjaro.

You will walk with a team of others including one of our inspirational beneficiaries, David, who has overcome mental injuries as a result of operations in Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Northern Ireland during 12 years service in 1 Rifles.

Following his discharge, David was diagnosed with depression linked to his operational deployments and levels of exposure to frontline combat. He became homeless and was ‘sofa-surfing’ whilst attempting to look for a job. After making the decision to seek professional mental health support, he was referred to Walking With The Wounded’s Home Straight programme and after working with his WWTW Employment Advisor, Tony, is now back in long-term, sustainable employment.

David said: “Tony helped me with my confidence issues and was there to support me through my early difficulties of total uncertainty. He was that ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ that I couldn’t see. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for the help provided through Walking With The Wounded’s Home Straight programme, in fact I probably would be dead.”

We ask each climber to aim to raise £1,000 to support our programmes assisting wounded veterans back into independence and long-term, sustainable employment.
