Great North Run Results
THANK YOU to our WWTW fundraisers who once again were a starring force at the Great North Run. Please see their times, photos and fundraising pages below and be inspired.
A team of Walking With The Wounded fundraisers completed the 2016 edition of the World’s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run, alongside 57,000 runners and raising more than £5,000 for our programmes supporting vulnerable veterans.
Every story is exceptional but special mentions to Ben Amer who completed the race in his wheelchair, Judith Eglinton who ran it with two replacement knees and veterans Paul Gardener (now in the Airbourne Engineer Reserves) and Shaun Aymard who turned heads throughout the famous run into Newcastle by carrying wheelchairs on their shoulders and backs respectively.
“It was an epic day and the support was unreal,” said Shaun. “I’m in bits now and going to be a bit tender for a few days I reckon!”
Congratulations to Newcastle fan Sam Halliday and pesonal trainer Dominic Odell who were our fastest runners home and Philippa Curtis who was our fastest female.
This year we had a number of runners who picked up injuries in the course of their training but still fundraised for the cause. Special mention to Gordon Hesp, our highest Great North Run fundraiser this year, who picked up an achilles injury and was so set on running the race on his 60th birthday that he went for a practice run with crutches and managed 5 miles before finally accepting he should defer until next year.
