Morrisons' VE Day Veterans Pie
Morrisons ‘Veterans Pie’ makes a comeback to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day
The ‘Veterans Pie’, created
by ex-servicemen from a famous Armed Forces recipe, made its return to Morrisons
stores across the country last week to celebrate the 75th
Anniversary of VE Day (May 8th).
The campaign which was initially launched last
year to celebrate Armed Forces Week, made a comeback, thanks to Morrisons’
ongoing support for the Armed Forces Community, and their customers were once
again given the opportunity to eat like a soldier.
The official 'Range
Stew' recipe is a closely guarded secret, but a handful of army veterans have
helped to recreate this army classic for a great cause – Morrisons version is
made from 100% British Beef steak, smoky bacon and a decent glug of Theakston’s
Old Peculiar Ale.
Simon Flores who
served with the Light Infantry and has been supported by Walking With The
Wounded said:
“Range stew is what kept us going in some tough times and we’re
delighted to share it with the nation. It’s great to see such a legendary army
dish raising money for Walking With The Wounded.”
Each pie was sold for 75p to commemorate the 75th
Anniversary of VE Day, with £10,000 of the sales donated to Walking With The
Wounded to support those who served.
A massive thank you to Morrisons for once again showing support for our
Armed Forces.
