WWTW launches ‘Overcoming’ podcast to mark 10th Year Anniversary
New episodes released monthly, guests include ex RAF Sgt Duncan Slater and ex Para turned World Champion cyclist, Jaco van Gass.
WWTW launches a new
podcast series, ‘Overcoming’. The podcast focuses on ordinary people who have
had extraordinary experiences, from veterans who have overcome life-changing
challenges to figures from public life.
The first episode features WWTW Ambassador, veteran, and double leg amputee- Duncan
Slater. During the 30-minute podcast, Duncan Slater discusses his military
career and the tour in Afghanistan that changed his life forever.
Duncan
Slater, WWTW Ambassador, said, “I have supported Walking With The
Wounded for several years. I am excited to be involved in the ‘Overcoming’
Podcast series and to share my story. Walking With The Wounded backed me when
no one else would. They supported me to achieve some incredible feats, from
skiing to the South Pole to becoming the first double amputee to complete the
infamous Marathon des Sables.”
Fergus
Williams, CEO of WWTW, commented, “The Overcoming podcast
presents a new platform for us to share the stories that help to shape who we
are as an organisation, what we do, and who we support. Walking With The
Wounded launched off the back of an expedition to the North Pole in 2011, since
then WWTW has experienced phenomenal growth due to our innovative
collaborations to address veteran issues. We are now a national charity with
teams across the UK, working closely with the NHS, our principal partner, and
we have supported more than 10,000 veterans and their families. The new podcast
is a chance for us to share some of the incredible stories from people across
the whole organisation.”
Further episodes include interviews with the charity’s 2021 Walk of Oman expedition team and a reunion of the North Pole team, including Jaco van Gass, medically discharged from the Parachute Regiment after losing his arm while serving in Afghanistan and has gone on to become a World Champion cyclist.
