Thanks to the support of Veterans’ Foundation, one of our Employment Advisors in the South East has recently been busy with a partnership between WWTW and Hampshire Countryside services.

A group of 3 beneficiaries (and hopefully more soon) have been attending a project weekly, alongside the EA, working with rangers on the Countryside Access Team.

They have worked on a boardwalk and have replaced multiple styles with kissing gates. The three beneficiaries all suffer from mental health and have become great friends and great support to one another. They meet up regularly outside of the volunteer project which takes place every Wednesday.

One stated this week that he has spent most of the year at home in a state of depression and although he is not necessarily ready for full-time work, loves to get out and about doing something meaningful, that is has helped him socialise again, he has something to get up to, and that his mental health is much better on those days. He also finds it really helpful chatting to others in a similar position as he knows they ‘get it’.

The rangers shared a vacancy within the team and one of our beneficiaries has applied for it as a result, due to the new skills learnt, so hopefully, he will be successful!’
