Walking With The Wounded celebrates accreditation of veteran mental health programme
Walking With The Wounded (‘WWTW’) has recently received accreditation from The Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS) for its veteran mental health programme, ‘Head Start’.
The Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services works to
assure and improve the quality of veterans’ mental health services throughout
the UK. They aim to promote quality improvement, share best practice, encourage
a culture of openness, help services plan improvements for the future and
demonstrate the quality of the care they provide. Ultimately, they bring
veteran mental health teams together and introduce quality standards to
recognise and drive quality in this area of mental health support.
Carolyn Brown, WWTW Clinical Lead, commented, “It is fantastic that WWTW has received accreditation and
Head Start has been recognised by the network and the Royal College of
Psychiatrists. This demonstrates that WWTW delivers a leading veteran mental
health support programme to those who served.”
WWTW is a member of the network, and Head Start was reviewed
against the Standards for Veterans Mental Health Services. These standards were
developed from key documents and expert consensus. They have been subject to
extensive consultation with professional groups involved in the delivery of
veterans’ mental health services and with people who have used these services.
WWTW’s mental health programme, Head Start, provides 1-2-1 private
therapy for ex-service personnel with mild to moderately severe mental health
difficulties such as depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(‘PTSD’) and adjustment disorder. Therapy is provided via face-to-face and
digital sessions. Evidence-based talking therapies including cognitive
behavioural therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
are delivered by accredited private therapists within the ex-service
personnel’s local community.
The NHS is central to
ex-service personnel receiving support for their mental health. Head Start are
referral partners within Op COURAGE TILS, CTS & HIS teams.
