Bournemouth-based businessman and Armed Forces veteran, Phil Carpenter, is set to take on one of the world's toughest endurance challenges, the Northern Lights Arctic Ultra 6633, from March 16-21, 2026 in aid of Walking With The Wounded.
Phil served in the Royal Military Police for seven years before leaving the Armed Forces. He has since taken on numerous fundraising challenges in support of the veteran community.
The 6633 Northern Lights Arctic ultramarathon is a 5-day, 290km footrace set in Canada’s Northwest Territories. Those taking part need to be self-sufficient, pulling their kit and equipment on sledges. The route takes competitors along the frozen Peel River toward Aklavik and Inuvik, covering up to 180 miles a day on the longest day, facing temperatures as low as -40 and camping out beneath the Northern Lights. The final stage sees runners complete the ultramarathon by taking on what is known as the world’s flattest and coldest marathon.
Phil said, “I’ve long supported Walking With The Wounded and enjoy pushing my limits for good causes. After running through the Sahara desert and climbing in the Himalayas as well as running the Everest Marathon, I wanted a new challenge to test my abilities.
‘‘The 6633 Ultra will be incredibly demanding, both physically and mentally. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m excited for the challenge and know that the money I raise will go towards a cause I am truly passionate about’’.
