Corporate volunteers refresh WWTW North West hub

Volunteers from Walking With The Wounded supporters NG Bailey and Hire Safe Solutions collaborated on a project to refresh our North West hub in Manchester.

The building is situated on Canada Street just outside the city centre, an area dubbed as ‘Veteran Street’ after it was first refurbished by BBC’s DIY SOS in 2015 as part of a regeneration project to provide housing to veterans and their families.  

The original project was one of DIY SOS’s biggest ever builds at the time, with around £2 million in labour and materials donated. In just 15 days, the team transformed run-down terraced houses into adapted homes, emergency accommodation, and the Walking With The Wounded charity hub. As well as support from the DIY SOS team, the build gained the royal seal of approval as Prince William and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, both joined for part of the project. 

For the recent refresh, the team of 12 volunteers completed several projects both inside and outside the building, including cleaning and reviving the garden space, fixing bathrooms and doors, and repainting walls. Alongside volunteering their time, donations of lightbulbs, cleaning supplies, gardening tools and a skip were provided by the volunteers.  

Commenting on the project, David Lowe, Regional Manager at Walking With The Wounded, said: “The hub on Canada Street is Walking With The Wounded’s main space in the North West, and is regularly used by our staff to come together and work collaboratively to support our veterans. We’re truly grateful the organisations and volunteers who gave their time and resources to come along this week and help to refresh the space.”
