Veteran Ryan Jackson is set to take on a 32km loaded march across the Peak District’s Edale Skyline in aid of Walking With The Wounded on Saturday 19 October.

Ryan served in the Household Cavalry from 2017 until 2022 when he was medically discharged due to PTSD. Following his discharge, Ryan received support from Project Recce who provide ex-military with pathways into a new career and began working with WWTW company partner, Sunbelt Rentals. After discovering WWTW through his new employer, Ryan had planned to volunteer with the charity but was involved in a serious road traffic accident in 2022 which caused him to break his pelvis and both arms, fracture his ribs, suffer from nerve damage in his shoulder and legs, as well as damage to his brain which subsequently caused minor memory loss.

However, in true military style, Ryan didn’t let the incident define him and has instead used it as a catalyst to regain his strength and is now keen to show his support for WWTW by undertaking his fundraising challenge.

Speaking on the upcoming march, Ryan said: "Over the last year, I’ve focused on getting my health back to a good state, which has led me to the point where I’m now ready to undertake this huge milestone in October. Whilst I know that the march is going to be a major challenge, I’m really looking forward to getting out there in the wonderful Peak District and hopefully spreading the word about the amazing work that Walking With The Wounded does."

Tom Grimshaw, Relationships Manager at WWTW, added: "We are grateful to Ryan and all of our fundraisers who take on huge challenges to support veterans and their families. Thanks to the funds raised by our incredible supporters like Ryan, we are able to continue our vital work supporting veterans throughout the UK. Thank you, Ryan and good luck!"
