Jen Jones, a dedicated Veteran Liaison Support Officer (VLSO) at Walking With The Wounded, is gearing up for a 300km cycling challenge in Holland from 08 to 13 of September. Her aim is to raise crucial funds for WWTW and support veterans and their families across the UK.
Starting from her hometown of Newcastle, Jen will cycle to Arnhem, the historic site of the Pegasus Bridge Operation during Operation Market Garden. She will then embark on a battlefield cycle tour around Holland, laying wreaths in honour of those who served.
Jen’s challenge is entirely self-funded. She’s set a fundraising goal of £1,000, with every penny going directly to WWTW. The funds will support the charity’s support programmes: Mental Health Support, Employment Support, and Care Coordination, all vital services for veterans transitioning to civilian life.
Reflecting on her upcoming challenge, Jen shared, “I love cycling, but this is my first time doing a cycling challenge for fundraising. As a VLSO at Walking With The Wounded, I see firsthand how crucial our services are for the most vulnerable ex-service personnel. I’m passionate about raising funds to help the charity continue its essential work.
Kate Tabain, Director of Fundraising & Communications at WWTW, praised Jen’s efforts, saying, “This is an incredible challenge that Jen is taking on, and we truly admire her efforts in supporting Walking With The Wounded and the work we do. As one of our colleagues, Jen has a solid understanding of the need for our services throughout the UK and we commend her fundraising, which will allow us to support even more veterans and their families.”
