For many RAF veterans, the journey after service can bring new challenges — from finding meaningful work to rebuilding confidence, strengthening relationships, or knowing where to turn for help. Thanks to a generous £10,000 grant from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAF Benevolent Fund), Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) has been able to make that journey a little easier for RAF veterans and their families.

The funding supported our single point of access, helping RAF veterans move easily between our programmes of support. By reducing the need for multiple referrals, veterans could access the right help quicker, in a way that felt straightforward.

Over the course of the grant, which concluded in June 2026, WWTW supported 241 RAF veterans. Behind that number are individual stories of people taking important steps forward. This includes:

  • Improving employment prospects
  • Improving mental health and well-being
  • Improving relationships

The grant, alongside our continued partnership with the RAF Benevolent Fund, has also contributed to our wider impact, including the generation of £29,548.990 in social value for the veterans supported in 2025. Together, this work reflects a shared commitment to ensuring members of the RAF community can receive timely, practical and compassionate support when they need it most.

Irene Greenwood, Welfare Programmes Manager at the RAF Benevolent Fund said: “We are proud to provide this grant to Walking With The Wounded to support the vital work they do helping veterans overcome the challenges they face after service. Working with trusted charity partners such as Walking With The Wounded enables the Fund to extend its reach and ensure more members of the RAF Family can access the specialist help they need to live well and thrive.”

Tom Knight, WWTW Head of Services, commented: “We are grateful to the RAF Benevolent Fund for its continued support of WWTW and the important programmes we deliver for RAF veterans and those who have served. Grants such as this enable us to continue developing and strengthening our employment, mental health and wraparound care coordination programmes, ensuring that when veterans come to us for support, we can provide the right help, at the right time, and to the highest possible standard.”

We are grateful to the RAF Benevolent Fund for their continued support and partnership.
