Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) is honoured to have been chosen as charity of the year by Alnwick-based ironworks CB Iron.
To mark the partnership, CB Iron founder and veteran Christopher Bryceland has placed ‘George’, a steel soldier statue, at Craster in Northumberland. The statue honours those who served in the First and Second World Wars and subsequent conflicts.
George was built in 2025. Each year around Remembrance, he is placed at a new location, continuing his role as a moving tribute to those who served. The statue is crafted from Corten steel, the same material used to create The Angel of the North.
Commenting on the charity partnership, Christopher Bryceland said: “I’m delighted to support Walking With The Wounded this year as our charity partner. They help veterans who need support most.
I created George as a tribute to those who served. He is named after my grandfather. The statue has been designed to catch your eye, as you walk towards him, you see a soldier and all his details, but as you walk past, he disappears from view to represent the fallen, he then reappears to show that we do and always will remember them. It has been designed as an act of remembrance.”
Tony Hulton, WWTW CEO, added, “We are grateful to Chris and CB Iron for choosing to support Walking With The Wounded. The statue is a fitting tribute to our Armed Forces community and a timeless reminder of the service of those who served in past conflicts. Donations raised by George will go towards supporting veterans through our core programmes, giving them the chance to find their feet on civvy street.”
