As we celebrate VE-Day in tribute to those who served during the Second World War, Yorkshire Handmade Pies, based near Ripon, is launching a new limited edition 'Bully Beef Pie' and for every box of six sold, 50p will be gifted to Walking With The Wounded.
During World War Two, Bully Beef (Corned Beef) was one of the main rations of the British Army and a major source of protein for the soldiers as they fought enemy forces across Europe.
Founder of Yorkshire Handmade Pies, James Sturdy said: “It’s hard to imagine the horrors, extreme conditions and sacrifices our soldiers had to endure whilst showing immense bravery in order for us to live the way we want to live today. So, I want to remember their great sacrifice and to mark that special day in 1945 when Victory in Europe was achieved as well as recognising other conflicts our soldiers have been involved with over the years. That’s why we choose to support Walking With The Wounded to raise money to go towards their fantastic work in helping those soldiers affected both physically and mentally while serving our Country. The more of these special pies are sold the greater the benefit to the charity, and while I am confident these will be popular, we will guarantee to cover a contribution of at least £1,000.”
Kate Tabain, Director of Fundraising and Communications at WWTW said: “Bully Beef Pie is one of those iconic, fondly remembered foods of the Second World War era - and was one of the things that kept Great Britain going! We are delighted that Yorkshire Handmade Pies are launching their new Bully Beef Pies as we mark the 80-year anniversary of Victory in Europe, and even more so as the proceeds raised for Walking With The Wounded through sales of this delicious pie will help us to continue to support our ex-service men and women, who gave and continue to give so much to ensure our safety and freedom.”
