Alverne Bolitho, former Grenadier Guard and WWTW Trustee, is preparing to take on a demanding six-day trekking challenge in Crete this June to raise funds for WWTW.
Alverne will be joined by nine friends from the United Kingdom and the US as they take on the “Sea to Summit” challenge – a 50km trek across Crete’s rugged coastline and mountainous terrain.
Alverne is a Trustee of Walking With The Wounded and served in the Grenadier Guards for six years before going on to build a career in the City of London.
The group taking part in the challenge includes Peter Bristowe, Richard Cotton, Johnny Criswell, Iain MacGuffog, Robert Mills, Martin Moore, Lewis Runnion, Simon Townsend and Andrew Younger.
The trek, organised by Tribal Tracks, will take place in southwest Crete and will test the group with a combination of steep climbs, coastal paths and high temperatures.
Speaking ahead of the challenge, Alverne said: “I have supported Walking With The Wounded since it was founded, and over the years have taken on several fundraising challenges. This year, I’ve brought together a group of friends to take on this trek across Crete. It will be tough, but it’s all for a good cause. We want to raise both funds and awareness to support ex-forces personnel and their families.”
Tony Hulton, WWTW CEO, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Alverne and his friends for taking on this challenge. The Sea to Summit trek will be physically demanding, but the funds they raise will make a real difference to veterans and their families across the UK.”
