When a military veteran who’s served their country needs help, will you help us make sure we’ll be there for them?
Step Up and support
Outside the forces, veterans often feel like they’ve lost their circle of support. We help show them that it’s still there and where to find it. But there’s a gap in that circle - and that’s you.
Step Up and become a regular giverStep Up to support those who served
Whatever challenges veterans face, we can overcome them together.
After leaving the Armed Forces, many veterans transition smoothly to civilian life however a small but significant minority struggle. For some, adjusting to life outside the military can feel overwhelming and isolating.
Veterans can face a range of challenges, from employment challenges, mental health issues and physical disabilities to financial difficulties and social isolation.
They need someone to step up, stand by them and offer support at every step of their journey. That is where we come in—with your help. Together, we can provide crucial support to the UK’s most vulnerable ex-servicemen and women, helping them combat isolation, secure meaningful employment, and overcome mental health challenges.
Your regular gift supports veterans like Dwayne
Dwayne, born and raised in Grenada, moved to England at 16 and joined the Army. During his deployment to Afghanistan, he faced life-threatening situations but described it as "the best job ever." Upon returning home for the birth of his son, Dwayne was stabbed and left temporarily paralysed. With the support of his Army team, he miraculously regained full mobility and returned to duty, but a cold injury later led to his medical discharge from the Army.
Adjusting to civilian life was challenging for Dwayne, as he struggled with PTSD, flashbacks, and insomnia while running a successful delivery business. He eventually reached breaking point, leaving his family and living in his car. A veteran friend encouraged him to seek help, and Dwayne was diagnosed with Complex PTSD. With support from numerous services including Walking With The Wounded (‘WWTW’) and Clare, a Veteran Liaison Support Officer at WWTW, Dwayne found housing, financial stability, and the chance to reconnect with his children and family.
Dwayne is now focused on rebuilding his life, maintaining his mental health, and working towards a better future. He has stopped drinking, completed a Level 3 First Aid course, and is considering further vocational training. Grateful for the support he received, especially from Clare, Dwayne feels hopeful about returning to normalcy and securing employment.
