Ed Parker, co-founder of Walking With The Wounded, has this week been named as one of seven Community Game Changers in the National Lottery’s 30th Birthday Celebrations.

Ed, a veteran himself, co-founded Walking With The Wounded in 2010 following a visit to his nephew Harry in hospital after he stepped on an improvised explosive device in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in July 2009, resulting in the loss of both of his legs.

Inspired by the sheer determination and strength displayed by his nephew and the other service men and women in the hospital, Ed set up WWTW to provide support to those who served, helping them to find their place in the community following their careers in the Armed Forces.

Nominated by the public, the National Lottery have selected 30 Game Changes across Community, Heritage, Sport and Arts & Film. Ed and his fellow Community Game Changers are the first of the 30 Game Changers to have been honoured for their contributions to society, with artwork of the seven individuals being installed in St James’ Park, London.

WWTW CEO Tony Hulton commented on Ed Parker’s recognition, saying, “I would like to send my congratulations to Ed Parker on this remarkable achievement. It’s fantastic that his work has been recognised and celebrated in such a meaningful way. Since Walking With The Wounded was founded in 2010, the organisation has supported thousands of veterans and their families across the UK, ultimately saving lives, families and giving veterans who are struggling, a renewed sense of purpose and direction. The charity remains committed to supporting those who served and their families.”
