Walking With The Wounded is delighted to have once again received a £10,000 grant from Houghton Dunn Charitable Trust to bolster its support services in the North West.

The funding will support a range of veteran support programmes in the region, including Head Start, the charity’s mental health programme, as well as its employment and wraparound care coordination programmes.

The grant will support veterans like Dean who served for 7 years in the Duke of Lancaster Regiment. He was a motivated soldier with an exemplary record, but things changed radically after he returned home from deployment in Afghanistan. Unable to adjust back to daily life, years of depression and substance misuse followed until Dean finally sought help. WWTW then provided practical and financial support so that he could focus on achieving his goal to start up a new business, which is now going from strength to strength.

Speaking about the impact of the support he received from WWTW, Dean said, “It had been many years since I had held down a job but the support I received from WWTW enabled me to move on from the past and make new goals. The new business is growing fast and there is so much going on, but I still use the same laptop that they funded for me every day at work. I have big plans and part of that is to give back and employ other veterans – to help them as they leave service and offer them the possibility of a new career.”

David Lowe, WWTW Regional Manager, added,“The grant from Houghton Dunn Charitable Trust will enable our team to continue to deliver our life-changing programmes in support of veterans like Dean and their families in the North West. From employment, to mental health and care coordination, our support programmes make a real and lasting difference to the lives of those who served.”
