Members of the Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) team recently attended the British Damage Management Association (BDMA) Conference in Nottingham, where this year’s theme, ‘Collaboration in a Changing World’ brought together industry leaders to explore the future of restoration and damage management.
The event Featured a diverse programme of expert-led sessions focussed on the power of collaboration in an evolving landscape. Attendees heard from a range of influential speakers, including BBC presenter Ben Fogle and championship rugby player Kevin Sinfield, alongside key leaders from across the sector.
Tommy Watson, Director of Veteran Affairs at WWTW, was invited to speak to BDMA members, delivering a compelling presentation on the unique value veterans bring to the workforce. Drawing on their military experience, veterans develop highly transferable skills such as resilience, leadership, teamwork in high-pressure environments and the ability to problem-solve in complex situations - qualities that closely align with the demands of roles within the damage management and restoration industry.
Tommy’s talk resonated strongly with attendees, sparking meaningful conversations with organisations eager to explore how they can better support veterans into sustainable and rewarding employment within the sector.
Reflecting on the event, Tommy said: “The passion for supporting those who have served was clear among attendees at the conference. Employment is one of WWTW’s core services, so connecting with organisations that are committed to creating pathways for veterans to join their workforce is incredibly encouraging.”
The conference provided a valuable platform for WWTW to strengthen relationships within the industry and continue supporting veterans as they transition into meaningful civilian careers.
